Our Volunteers have fun with Jewish history!

We know that without our volunteers, we’re history.  We also know that to attract the best volunteers, our opportunities had better be fun, rewarding and a good use of your time.

Check out the volunteer opportunities below, and contact us to arrange a schedule that suits your needs.
If you don’t happen to see something of interest on the list, give us a call and we’ll work with you to create an experience that will be helpful to us and rewarding for you.  Write to history@jhsum.org or call Susan Hoffman at 952-381-3364.

Love old photos?
If you do, you'll love this chance to help JHSUM catalogue its newly digitized photography collection.  We're seeking volunteers with computer skills to help with data entry.

Scan, Scan, Scan

We will be embarking on a new project scanning photos for our photo database.  If you have worked with scanners and are interested in period photography, please contact us.  We could use someone 3-4 hours per week for 1-2 months.

Get his story and her story first-hand
We need help conducting oral histories with World War II veterans, Jewish lawyers and judges, and World War II displaced persons and refugees. Interviewers and transcribers needed.  Training and equipment provided.

Bark up a family tree
Help Society members compile family trees and become a resource for fielding genealogy questions. A little expertise in genealogy and a love for family histories preferred.

Nu? Help with Yiddish translation
Do you speak more than a shtikl of Yiddish? Translate Yiddish documents and recordings that provide clues to the lives of Jewish immigrants on the prairie.

Read other people’s diaries!

JHSUM has extensive archives of donated artifacts, letters and photographs. We always need volunteers to help us maintain our databases by documenting the stories of our collections.

Take the show on the road
Present Jewish history to school groups and community organizations.  We will train you to become a presenter for two programs: A Treasured Past and In the Beginning: Early Jewish History in Minnesota . Both are interactive presentations using photos, writings and artifacts from JHSUM collections to engage audiences in Jewish history.

Internship
Intern at JHSUM! We customize your experience to enhance your academic interests. Contact us today for more details.
