Fred McKinley Jones 

Joe Numero, owner of Thermo King, together with Frederick McKinley Jones, a self-taught engineer, revolutionized how we eat by creating a refrigerated transportation system.

 

The film will explore Joe’s early years that shaped his remarkable business acumen, his service to his country in World War I, his unlikely but historic partnership with Fred McKinley Jones, who despite not finishing high school, was one of the most brilliant and prolific inventors of his time.  

​​The premiere of the film will be followed by the re-dedication

An evening of music, archival exploration, and learning about the life of Werner Simon, who documented his life and escape from Nazi Germany in the 1930s.​The evening will feature a small exhibit of archival materials from the Werner Simon papers in the Upper Midwest Jewish Archives, a presentation on Simon’s life by UMN student Ryken Farr, and a brief musical performance on Werner Simon’s Guadagnini violin housed with the School of Music.
